Upcoming Deadlines for Bilingual Labeling

The first deadline for reporting compliance with Bilingual labeling requirements under PRIA 5 is July 31, 2026. This applies only to restricted use pesticides (RUPs) and non-RUP Agricultural products with an Acute Toxicity Category I signal word (DANGER), which had an implementation deadline of December 29, 2025.

The next implementation deadline of December 29, 2026, which applies to EPA registered antimicrobial and non-agricultural products with a DANGER signal word, is quickly approaching.  Product labels must comply by December 29, 2026. Registrants with these products must also update MyPeST to report compliance by January 30, 2027.

Act Now!

REMINDER: All label versions and sizes with the Spanish translation, or a QR code leading to the translation, must be actively available for release to market by the deadline. You will not be able to confirm compliance in MyPeST until all labels for each brand name sold under an EPA registration number are complete. SRC strongly encourages registrants to update their product labels prior to October, since state label updates may also need to be filed and many states will close their submission portals to label updates during calendar year Q4 for state registration renewal processing.  This will also help ensure adequate time to order and have new labels available for production.

Requirements

• PRIA 5 requires all pesticides to provide Spanish translation of health and safety sections of labeling.
• This requirement applies to all end-use pesticide products. Manufacturing-use products are exempt from this requirement.
• Registrants can add Spanish labeling (e.g. translation, QR code, or website with read pointer) to their master label via non-notification.  Updated market labels must be provided to each state agency, though most do not require review prior to use of the updated label.
• Basic Registrants must provide supplemental registrants with a copy of the EPA non-notification to include in their state label update submission. Basic registrants may include all options for compliance on their master label and allow supplemental registrants to choose the method that works best for them.

Bilingual Labeling Options

Any pesticide may achieve compliance with either:

1. On label translation
2. A scannable link (i.e., QR Code) to the translated sections of the label

Antimicrobials, non-agricultural products, and non-restricted use products may alternatively:

3. Provide a scannable link to their Spanish SDS in lieu of translating the actual product label

Registrants do not have to use the  Spanish Translation Guide for Pesticide Labeling but it is strongly recommended to use the guide or a certified translator to ensure true and accurate translation.
