In 2025, both The Nevada Department of Agriculture and the Puerto Rico Department of Agriculture have enacted legislation to increase their pesticide registration fees. These increases will affect both the initial registration of a product and subsequent registration renewals.
Nevada Updates Pesticide Registration Fee
The Nevada Department of Agriculture (NDA) Division of Plant Health and Compliance has announced updates to pesticide registration fees under the Nevada Administrative Code (NAC) 586. The new fee structure was temporarily approved on March 3, 2025, and will take effect on May 5, 2025. A hearing for permanent adoption is scheduled for July 22, 2025.
Under the updated rules, manufacturers will now pay a $281 registration fee per pesticide product sold in Nevada. This 125% increase from the current cost $125 per product, applies to both new registrations and annual product certificate renewals.
These fees support vital programs that ensure pesticide compliance across the state. Funds help cover label reviews, marketplace inspections, and pesticide application monitoring in commercial, residential, and agricultural settings. They also support training for pesticide applicators and public employees, as well as programs focused on pesticide disposal, groundwater protection, and noxious weed control.
Puerto Rico Increases Pesticide Registration Fee
In a recent change to the U.S. Territory’s legislation, Puerto Rico has increased it’s registration fee from $40 to $250 for a two year registration certificate. This change is in affect beginning in 2025 for all pesticide products. Even at a per product fee of $125 per year, Puerto Rico remains one of the lowest cost states or territories to register pesticide products in.
These fees will support costs to review and approve pesticide applications in the territory.
