Effective January 1st, 2022, the Missouri Department of Agriculture implemented a more thorough review of all revised labels submitted in the state to determine if significant changes were made to the label. SRC reported in our State Newsletter on 10/18/2021, that if this review finds that significant changes were made, then a new registration and $200 registration fee will be required. This will also lead to an additional renewal registration if the previous label has not left channels of trade before the renewal date of December 31st.

Below are some examples provided by Missouri in the original letter to pesticide registrants of what the state considers a significant label change:

  • Changes to:
    • Directions for Use
    • Storage and Disposal
    • Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
    • Percentage of active ingredient
    • Brand name of registered product
    • Company name
    • Address on the label
    • Amounts of N, P, and K in weed and feed products
  • Alternate brand name products

The Update

SRC’s state registration team recently attended the Missouri Ag webinar on Registration Changes, hosted by CropLife and RISE, where changes and clarifications to this policy were discussed. Changes in Directions for Use, Storage & Disposal, and PPE were removed from the original list and will no longer require an initial registration. Also, changes in toxicity were added to the list and will require an initial registration and $200 registration fee. Below is an updated list of changes requiring a new registration in Missouri.

  • Changes to:
    • Directions for Use
    • Storage and Disposal
    • Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
    • Percentage of active ingredient
    • Brand name of registered product
    • Company name
    • Address on the label
    • Amounts of N, P, and K in weed and feed products
    • Product toxicity
  • Alternate brand name products

The Missouri Department of Agriculture website is now updated to reflect this new information.

Missouri Label Reviews

It was shared in the meeting on February 9th that Missouri is currently experiencing a two-month turn-around time to complete label reviews. In addition, the state requested for registrants to ensure they are including a highlighted copy of the label in their submissions. This helps the state agents maintain their timing and efficiencies during review.
